Norway values pollution control during manufacturing when procuring drugs

Norway are now following Sweden in the countries´ attempt to create incentives for better pollution control during manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

Joakim Larsson and his team at the University of Gothenburg revealed massive discharges of antibiotics from bulk drug manufacturing in India over ten years ago. The original findings have been followed up in a number of scientific studies, and the research has spawned a range of actions, both from industry (ref 1, ref 2), from regulators and from other actors (ref 1, ref 2).

The more countries that adds pressure through procurement, the greater the possibilities to make a real change, says Joakim Larsson, director of CARe.
