Second annual CARe meeting

The second annual CARe meeting was held June 12th-13th at Aspenäs Mansion in Lerum not far from Gothenburg.

Approximately 60 CARe scientists as well as some members of the CARe Advisory Board participated during the theme-based sessions, a panel discussion and two inspirational lectures by Professor Thomas Sterner and Professor Jason Snape.

The first day scientists from the themes Diagnostics, Environment, Surveillance and Transmission presented their work. Then Professor Jason Snape (photo) talked about how AstraZeneca and other pharma companies think about the challenges with pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics, in the environment and how these could be managed.

Day two we all enjoyed talks from researchers from the two themes of Interventions and Therapeutics. However, the morning session started with a highly appreciated lecture by Thomas Sterner, Professor of Environmental Economics at GU.

Furthermore, a panel discussion moderated by Joakim Larsson (Director of CARe), perfected day 2. The panel, Associate Professor Johan Struwe (The Public Health Agency of Sweden), MD PhD Peter Ulleryd (Infection Control Practitioner and former expert at WHO) and Professor Jason Snape (AstraZeneca), discussed issues such as how CARe best could develop as a center in the future.

In summary, it was a great meeting which inspired our community in what we do and gave new insights to what the future will have coming for us.
