Transmission

Resistant bacteria spread rapidly between people and countries and resistance genes spread between bacterial cells and species. The knowledge of the molecular and societal forces that propel these transmissions is insufficient.

Our research aim is to gain a greater understanding of mechanisms and driving forces behind the spread of antibiotic resistance, in order to identify efficient countermeasures. A possible outcome from this work will, for example, facilitate the development of pharmaceuticals that could be taken in combination with antibiotics (helper drugs) to reduce the risk of resistance transfer between bacteria in the gut.
