A new paper by Christian Munthe and Niels Nijsingh has been published by the journal Bioethics.

News: Jun 24, 2019

This paper is one of eight contributions to a forthcoming special issue on the ethics of antibiotic resistance, and scrutinizes the notion of relaxing regulatuion for the introduction of new drugs in order to facilitate and stimulate research and innovation of new antibiotic formulas, in view of the antibiotic resistance challenge. The authors argue that while principal arguments seem to support this idea, pragmatic concerns about effective implementation and long-term socio-political sustainability may motivate considerable reluctance to lower bars set into place to ensure patient safety and ethical clinical practice.

Title: Cutting red tape to manage public health threats: An ethical dilemma of expediting antibiotic drug innovation
