Identification of pneumococcus using proteotyping

A new article published in PLOS ONE concerning our ongoing efforts in the field of 'proteotyping'

In this publication we demonstrate the high resolution and accuracy of 'proteotyping' by differentiating and identifying very closely-related species of bacteria: the major human pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae from the commensal species Streptococcus pseudopneumoniae and Streptococcus mitis. Title: "Proteotyping bacteria: Characterization, differentiation and identification of pneumococcus and other species within the Mitis Group of the genus Streptococcus by tandem mass spectrometry proteomics"
The next step is focused on implementing the use of these species-unique peptide biomarkers for rapid, culture-independent diagnostics.
